Center for Teaching and Learning Spring 2023 Programs

As we settle into the spring semester, just a reminder of spring programs available:

  •  One-on-one help:  Whether it involves figuring out a component of your course or working through a difficult problem with a student, you can come to the CTL for help.  Any interaction with the CTL or participation in programming is absolutely confidential and won’t be reported to administration unless you request it. Contact CUCanvas@ for help with any facet of online or remote teaching; for other matters contact Chris if you are interested. Chris is available to share resources, confer about questions you have, and conduct formative class observations. Please be in touch!
  • Book Club: This year participants are reading Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter C. Brown, Henry L. Roedigger III, and Mark A. McDaniel. The CTL provides a copy of the book, participants read on a set schedule and meet three times during the term to discuss it (with one option being a Friday lunch on the CTL). You can still join! Contact Chris if you are interested.
  • Castleton Mentors: Join a group of faculty and staff who gather informally to talk about teaching. In the past participants have participated in class observations and more structured work, which will be facilitated if they so choose to go this route. Meetings are set around participants’ schedules. Please contact Chris if you have not been included in the planning list for this yet! Our first meeting will be Friday, February 10 at 1:00, Library Conference Room #1.
  • Innovation Lab: The Innovation Lab is open for faculty and staff to use. The lab is equipped with a teleconference classroom with user laptops, VR headsets, 3D scanning and printing, and a Glowforge Laser Cutter. Innovation lab director Matt Moriarty and his team of crack interns will be holding introductory workshops on the technology. Please contact Matt if interested.
  • CTLI Workshop Series: This term, most of our workshops will be coordinated through the new Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation, under the direction of Jen Garrett-Ostermiller. Schedule of workshops coming soon!
  • Library Teaching and Learning Collection: And, finally, in case you haven’t had a chance to visit, you should check out the teaching and Learning collection in the library. facing you back on the left side when you walk in the door. Here are some of the newest acquisitions:
