Fall Mentoring- Trainings this Week!

Hello Spartans!
Welcome new students and welcome back to our returning students!

If you are interested in becoming a mentor or want to learn more about the program before joining, attend our training:
Thursday, September 15th at 12:10pm- Jeffords Auditorium

My name is Elizabeth Haggerty, and I am a mentor leader along with Jordyn Howard. Jordyn and I are excited to tell you about an AMAZING PROGRAM- THE MENTORING PROGRAM!
What is MENTORING? The Castleton University mentoring program pairs a mentor (Castleton University student) with a mentee (5th or 6th grade Castleton Elementary student) based on similar interests!

You get the opportunity to venture off campus once a week for an hour (commitment is for the full academic year) enjoying RECESS (who doesn’t love recess!?) and lunch with a local mentee. This is a unique opportunity, and it is a lot of FUN! Be a role model, give back to your local community by joining the Mentoring Program! We welcome ALL CASTLETON UNIVERSITY students to join in on the fun and rewarding experience of mentoring!

Our mission for the program is to “Plant the Seed for Higher Education” for these 5th and 6th graders! They enjoy learning about your major, your courses, clubs and organizations, athletics and much more.

Castleton Mentor of the past

The last two years, due to COVID, this program became a “PEN PAL” program, but we are finally able to be back IN PERSON this fall! EVERYONE – Mentors, Mentees, Teachers, Staff, and Administration welcome you and look forward to seeing you all at the school for lunch and recess each week!
If you are interested in this program, and more importantly, making a difference in young lives within your local community, this is the program for you! Please email mentoring@castleton.edu if you are interested in joining the program and we will send you more details.
We will have an information table at the Activities Fair on September 8th from 12-2pm, so we hope to see you there. This is an amazing program, and the mentees are so thankful for you… take it from two mentees from the past 🙂 (Jordyn and I).

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at mentoring@castleton.edu

Mentoring will take place at Castleton Elementary School after October break. Mentoring will kick off by welcoming Mentees to the CU Pavilion where you get to meet your mentee! Then, ONCE a WEEK (ANY DAY) you will get to visit your mentee at the Castleton Elementary School between the hours of 12:30-1:30.  This is recess and lunch for the mentees, so you will join them (and their friends) on the soccer field, swing sets, and eat lunch with them! Lunch is also provided for Mentors for free!
This is a YEAR ROUND program, and requires full commitment… no mentee left behind. Once you join the program, you’ll meet our lovely coordinators, Ashley Haggerty and Kate Spaulding, along with Jordyn and I. We will then get to know you, and pair you up with a mentee!
See you at Mentoring!
