Welcome back! Here at the Academic Support Center, we hope you’ll visit us this semester. Of course, we always love seeing new faces (and familiar ones), but we also want to see you succeed. And since 30% of our frequent fliers make the Dean’s or President’s List, chances are excellent we can help you achieve your goals as well.
And our full-time counselors can answer your questions about all aspects of college life from classes and majors to disability accommodation and financial aid to graduate school and career preparation. In addition, we offer a friendly study space with computers, a printer, comfy chairs, and, if you’re lucky, snacks. Best of all, all of our services are free to current students.
Some updates:
Disability Services: The cheerful and indefatigable Gerry Volpe, now Director of Disability Services, continues to represent Disability Services on the Castleton campus. However, students will now report disabilities and health conditions and request accommodations through the VTSU Portal. Students can click on the Disability Services tile on the portal to upload documentation and request accommodations. However, students, faculty, and staff can always feel free to contact DisabilityServices@VermontState.edu or email Gerry directly at Gerard.Volpe@VermontState.edu with any questions or concerns about the accommodations process.
Staffing Changes:
This summer, two longtime members of our team, Academic Counselor Becky Eno and STEM Development Coordinator Deborah Jackson, left us to pursue other ventures. We miss them and wish them the best in their new endeavors.
That said, we are delighted to introduce three new members of our Academic Support family. Here they are in alphabetical order:
– Leigha Charron, Graduate Assistant: A 2023 Castleton graduate and a current student in the School Psychology program, Leigha assists staff with program planning and promotion. She will also meet with students to help them navigate college life. We are already impressed with Leigha’s knack for design and her unflappability in all situations.
– Rachel “Scott” Krevetski, STEM Development Coordinator: Rachel, who will be called Scott to avoid unnecessary confusion with the other Rachel, will assist students with math and science coursework and coordinate tutoring in those disciplines. Like all full-time Academic Support staffers, she will also offer general academic counseling. A former Vermont Tech lab instructor and chemical safety officer, Scott brings a wealth of laboratory experience and unflagging enthusiasm for TRIO to her work with students.
– Rachel Mark, Director of Academic Support: Rachel comes to us with many years of school and administrative experience, most recently as the Professional Development Coordinator at UVM’s Tarrant Institute. She is working towards finishing her doctorate in Educational Leadership where her research is in learner self-direction. In addition to managing our grant and budget, Rachel will meet with students to discuss academic and financial challenges of college life. We are grateful to Rachel for her kind and thoughtful leadership during this time.
