  1. Read the descriptions on the front of the package.
  2. Select the one you want to take home.
  3. Bring your chosen book to the Circulation Desk to be checked out.
  4. When you are ready to end the “date,” please take a few minutes to fill out the “Rate Your Date” card inside each book.

…..Who knows? You may just fall in love…..

VSC Reads: Brown Girl Dreaming

The VSC Libraries invite the VSC community to join together to read Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming in honor of Black History month.  Brown Girl Dreaming was the 2014 National Book Award winner for Young People’s Literature and was selected as the Vermont Reads book for 2017. Each VSC library will be hosting an event during February for students, staff and faculty to talk about the book – the Calvin Coolidge Library will be holding a reading and book discussion on Wednesday, February 28th from 5pm to 6pm in the Library Lounge.

Brown Girl Dreaming book cover

Brown Girl Dreaming tells the story of my childhood, in verse. Raised in South Carolina and New York, I always felt halfway home in each place. In these poems, I share what it was like to grow up as an African American in the 1960s and 1970s, living with the remnants of Jim Crow and my growing awareness of the Civil Rights movement. It also reflects the joy of finding my voice through writing stories, despite the fact that I struggled with reading as a child. My love of stories inspired and stayed with me, creating the first sparks of the writer I was to become.”  Jacqueline Woodson

Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Calvin Coolidge Library – please ask for a copy at the Circulation Desk.
