A New Approach to Advancement Services
The newly formed department consolidates the university’s efforts in development, relations, marketing, and communications. By bringing these four areas together, Castleton can better engage alumni, connect with parents and families, secure valuable resources for our students, and more effectively tell the Castleton University story through a variety of platforms.
Now in his thirteenth year at Castleton, Jeff Weld ’04 serves as Dean of Advancement, leading all functions of the department. Jeff spent eight years leading athletic communications before transitioning to oversee university relations in 2012, and eventually all marketing and communications functions.
New to the Advancement Office is Michael McCord as Director of the Castleton Fund and Donor Relations. Mike earned a degree in Music Education from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. and taught middle and high school music before joining Silver Bay YMCA on Northern Lake George as the Annual Fund Director. He then moved on to Middlebury College, where he worked as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving.
Molly DeMellier ’14 is Assistant Director of the Castleton Fund and Donor Relations. After graduating in December 14, Molly attended NYU earning a master’s degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications while working in athletics development and relations. Her experiences at NYU will help Castleton grow its niche giving opportunities, such as the Spartan Shield Society, while also working to engage our more recent alumni.
After two years as Communications Coordinator, Courtney Widli (Parker) ’13 transitioned to Assistant Director of University Relations. This newly designed role will allow her to connect communications efforts with alumni and parent relations functions.
Gary Ladabouche ’80 is entering his fourth year as Director of Corporate Giving and Major Gifts. Through Gary’s efforts the annual Castleton Classic Golf Tournament has raised more than $200,000 in the last four years, and the number of corporate sponsorships at Castleton exceeds 100.
Finally, Liz Garside ’04 has transition to a part time role as the Database Specialist and Office Assistant. Liz’s efforts have led to an increase in overall donor support, a more professional and strategic approach to fundraising and the cultivation of a growing culture of philanthropy within staff and faculty.
