Wrestling and Women’s Rugby New Varsity Sports
Wrestling and women’s rugby are now the 28th and 29th varsity sports at Castleton.
With the growth and popularity of rugby in the United States, Castleton joined many other colleges and universities that have recently elevated the status of their club programs to varsity. The women took the field this fall for their historic first game, and continue to compete with some of the top regional and national competition.
Scott Legacy was announced as the inaugural head coach of the Castleton wrestling program, and instantly brought credibility to the newest sport on campus.
Legacy comes to Castleton following a Hall of Fame career as the wrestling coach at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington for the past 30 years. The 2014 USA Today National Coach of the Year and New England Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee created a dynasty at Mount Anthony, illustrated by his program’s 27 straight state championships.
The full story of his hire and the addition of wrestling was the widest read story in the history of castletonsports.com, and his recruiting efforts have brought in a full roster of more than 30 wrestlers for the inaugural season.
Jason Behenna, Director of Athletic Marketing and Communications
Castleton welcomed Jason Behenna, a 16-year collegiate sports information professional as the Director of Athletic Marketing and Communications in September. A native New Englander, Jason returns home after spending nearly a decade at Division I Seattle University as Sports Information Director. Behenna graduated from University of Southern California and spent time at the University of New Hampshire and Centenary College before moving on to Seattle.
