Creating a Filter List of Students

Say you want to review only your first-year advisees, or maybe you want to send a message to graduating seniors in your program.  You can create a student group to review and message by setting up a “filter.”

You can download some easy instructions to print out and you can watch a video on how to set up filters.  Learn much more about Aviso by visiting the VSC Aviso Canvas page.

Find your filters in the left-hand column of your “Students” menu page. You add a filter by pressing the “+” at the top of the column. When the dialogue box appears on the right, it will ask you to name your filter and then select students from your caseload or all students who fit any combination of the student characteristics that Aviso tracks.

You can use this feature to:

  • Get a list of all majors;
  • Get a headcount of double-majors;
  • Identify specified students in any class;
  • Separate out groups of students from your caseload list;
  • Follow students in a club that you advise;
  • Identify students hailing from a specific high school;
  • And so much more.

Once you have set up a filter, you can use this feature to send group messages to all students within a filter group. Give it a try!
